ENHANCED TRACTION CONCEPT
The vehicle remain a 2 wheels drive and the system is forming as follow :
A limited split differential
The gearbox is modified by replacing its original differential. The vehicle is fitted with a limited slip differential which has a torque transfer system based on eight friction discs arranged alternately. When a wheel starts to lose grip, the new differential transfers 25% of the power and torque to the other wheel.
A special sump and body underguard
When driving over particularly difficult terrain, and driving limits are reached (the vehicle "bottoming" for example), the under-chassis guard provides the necessary protection.
This is composed of a sheet steel front guard for the engine and two side guards for the brake and fuel lines.
All-roads tyres
Although the original tyres may be retained with the conversion, it is preferable to equip the vehicle with off-road or mud and snow type tyres.
Enhanced Traction represents a large part of FAM Automobiles' business, whose current production capacity is 600 vehicles a month.
In 2004, monthly capacity could reach 1000 units.
Since 2000, FAM Automobiles has fitted its Enhanced Traction to over 12000 vehicles.
Increased vehicle ground clearance
The raised vehicle can then access difficult terrain and negotiate obstacles.
